VAA Judges & Workshops Register

This list is a work in progress and VAA is always looking for talented and proven artists in all fields of the visual arts to apply for a spot on our Judges Register and to conduct workshops. 

By having a central repository for our member organisations, we can help ensure information is as up to date as possible, and judges are matched to suitable events.  We already have several wonderful judges on our list - but we need more! (Click for application form)

Please tell us your areas of expertise, what levels of competition you feel comfortable with (e.g. club, regional, national), previous judging experience (if any) and industry experience, as well as achievements in the arts and whether you will conduct workshops.  The information will be collated and available on this site. Referrals will also be made when  member organisations have an event which requires judging. We can then ensure that only judges fitting the event criteria are contacted.

GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION OF JUDGES

 On selecting judges for art exhibitions there is nothing set in stone but some guidelines VAA is following-

    .     Broad understanding and appreciation of techniques and  standards and quality of excellence

    Broad understanding and appreciation of contemporary practise.

    Ability to be objective and independent – often can be visiting the locality.

    Ability to articulate rationale and basis of judging

    Ability to review judging criteria and respond appropriately

   Consideration should be given if you want a judge’s walk through of the exhibition or written commentary as part of the judging.

    A judge with renown can contribute positively to level and number of entries in a competition
